Trowbridge Museum is an excellent
and well respected venue for school visits. Housed in what was
once a flourishing woollen mill, the Museum is modern in design
and easily accessible. A full-time education officer is available
to liaise with teachers and supervise the comprehensive programme
of activities for schools. |
The Education Project has been in place since
1993 and has attracted schools from a wide area of Wiltshire.
Many thousands of children have enjoyed their trips to participate
in living history sessions, drama, object-handling and practical
work. Over the years every effort has been made to keep sessions
relevant to the National Curriculum and teachers' needs as well
as offer a wider choice of activities.

COMMENTS FROM CHILDREN FROM VISITING
SCHOOLS:
I enjoyed it as much as having a birthday!
I was telling mummy and daddy about the museum all the time when I
got home!
When I grow up and am a teacher I am going to bring my class here!

The
National Curriculum
Most of the themed workshops are developed using 4 different activities.
Between them, these cover English, Mathematics, Technology and
History.
Everyone booking for our Education workshops will receive the
relevant information sheets and plans of the Museum. Our charges
are very competitive and all teachers and adult helpers will
be admitted FREE so it won't cost anything to make a preliminary
visit.
|
The Museum is situated in the middle of The Shires Shopping
Centre and is therefore easy to find. It has toilets, a shop
and an Education Room. There is a video currently on sale which
charts the history of Trowbridge; this also runs in the Museum.
Each complete workshop lasts about an hour and a half. Please
allow yourself extra time if you want to use the shop or eat
lunch on the premises.
