EDUCATION SCHOOL WORKSHOPS
Most of the themed workshops are developed using 4 different activities.
Between them, these cover English, Mathematics, Technology and
History.
Everyone booking for our Education workshops will receive the
relevant information sheets and plans of the Museum. Our charges
are very competitive and all teachers and adult helpers will be
admitted FREE so it won't cost anything to make a preliminary visit.
Each complete workshop lasts about an hour and a half. Please
allow yourself extra time if you want to use the shop or eat lunch
on the premises.
The complete list of workshops are available by clicking on the
pack below:

School Workshops Include:
Houses and Homes - The children will be comparing 4 different
eras of history: the Middle Ages, the Tudor period, Victorian England
and the 1940's. They will find out about life in a Norman Castle
using the Museum's model and reconstruction, and investigate everyday
domestic objects. There will also be items to handle and draw which
illustrate the Tudor period as well as a discussion of poverty
and wealth. For the Victorian period the children can see a full-size
replica of a Victorian weaver's cottage and there are several household
objects to study. The same format is used in an investigation of
houses and homes in the 1940's. For every activity there are hats
and costumes to try on which really bring the past to life! KS1
Victorian Children: Schooldays - The Victorian school experience
is recaptured in 4 different activities. In the Victorian School
the children learn deportment, good manners and elocution. They
practise their number work, reading and spelling following Victorian
methods and learn "Copper Plate" handwriting using slates
and
slate pencils. Sewing skills are tested too as the children work
on embroidering Victorian "samplers". This workshop is
adapted to suit both KS1 and KS2.
