School Workshops for KS1: Houses and Homes
This workshop is an excellent introduction to English history,
covering FOUR widely different periods in a memorable way. There
is no need to “dress up” for this workshop because
the Museum provides costumes for the children to try on. There
are mirrors available so everyone can admire what they look like!
The activities take place at FOUR different locations in the
Museum and cover Life in the Norman Castle, The Tudor House, a
Victorian Weaver’s cottage and Houses and Housework in the
1940s. There will be one or two costumed interpreters on hand to
explain the different tasks. Each activity lasts about 20 minutes
and all instructions and materials are provided by the Museum.
At each location the children discuss the sort of houses people
lived in at different times in history. They also investigate everyday
objects rather different to the household items of today and are
provided with drawing materials so they can make a permanent record
of their visit.
