School Workshops for KS1: Old Toys and Games
This fun workshop contrasts toys and games from Victorian times
with those of the 1940s/50s.
Activities cover Maths, English and Technology/Art as well as
History. The class work in small groups on each of the FOUR activities.
There will be one or two Museum staff to help explain the tasks.
Each activity lasts about 20 minutes and all materials and instructions
are provided by the Museum.
1. Victorian Masks
Children really enjoy making these Victorian masks that can be
taken back to school and used in games or plays.
2. Games from the Past
The children play two different games and have to practise their
maths skills by keeping score.
3. What’s that Toy?
This problem-solving activity will help the children identify a
range of old toys. They can also draw the objects and write descriptive
sentences about them.
4 . Victorian Toys
Using photographs and one of our displays, the children will identify
Victorian toys and find out if any of them are still in use today.
There is always an element of competition- which of the four
groups will find the most toys?
