WHAT'S NEW AT TROWBRIDGE MUSEUM

FREE WORKSHOPS at Trowbridge Museum...

On Monday 21st August we are running a DIGITAL ART WORKSHOP at St John’s Parish Centre, 9.30 to 12.45 and 1.45 to 5.00. There are 20 places available and children must be aged 8 or over.
Call 751339 for details and to book a place.

On Tuesday 15th August we are making PLAITED MATS in the Museum, 10.30 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 3.30, there is no need to book, just turn up.

On Wednesday 16th August we have a T-SHIRT DESIGN WORKSHOP at Studley Green Community Centre, 10.15 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 3.45.
Call 751339 to book a place.

These workshops are for children aged 5 – 16, and children aged under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Calling all Grandparents, Parents, Children and Grandchildren!!! On Thursday 17th and Friday 18th August the History People are coming to Trowbridge Museum with two wartime characters – Lady Elizabeth Yeoman-Brown and a Home Guard Recruiting Sergeant, giving talks about life on the Home Front during the Second World War.

They are here from 10.30 until 3.30 and there is no need to book. Suitable for ages 5 to 100+

These FREE activities are funded by the LOCAL NETWORK FUND.

 


 

LOOKING GOOD...

'Looking Good' our latest temporary exhibition opens on Saturday 29th April at 12.00 noon. The exhibition tells the history of clothes and recounts the life of a Trowbridge textile designer. As well as some fantastic costumes from the past on display, there are also some wonderful 21st century designs by pupils from John of Gaunt and St Augustines schools. The exhibition will run until September.

Isaac Pitman the creator of shorthand, is an international figure and he was born in Trowbridge. The Museum’s Assistant Curator, Helen Montague-Smith has written a fascinating book entitled ‘Isaac Pitman, the Trowbridge years’. Packed with over eighty illustrations, this informative book gives an insight into this remarkable man and his achievements. It retails at only £4.99 and is available from the Museum shop.
