Summer Holidays 2008 – FREE CRAFT ACTIVITIES

 

We have an exciting range of art and craft workshops planned for the summer including more bag-decorating, decorative mobiles, printmaking, decorated bandanas, keepsake boxes and dangly birds.

 

Wednesday 30th July – Stylish Shoppers

Decorate an Eco-Bag with scraps, buttons and beads

 

Friday 1st August – Cardboard Keepsakes

Make a hand-crafted keepsake box from recycled cardboard

 

Thursday 7th August – Brilliant Breezecatchers

Make a decorative mobile and catch those summer breezes

 

Tuesday 12th August – Crafty Comets

Make an amazing high-flying comet and watch it soar

 

Wednesday 13th August – Fabric Frogs

Make an exotic picture in our amazing fabric printing workshop

 

Tuesday 19th August – Blazing Bandanas

Decorate your own unique bandana and wear it with style.

 

Wednesday 27th August – Bouncing Birdies

Make an amusing bouncy birdy out of felt, buttons and beads.

 

Thursday 28th August – Big-up The Bag (2)

If you missed it the first time here’s another chance to decorate an eco-bag with paints, pens and pastels.

 

All our workshops are FREE and they usually last about 40 minutes. We have three sessions in the morning starting at 10.30, 11.10 and 11.50 and three in the afternoon starting at 1.30, 2.10 and 2.50. Entry is by ticket only, issued at 10am and 1pm, and they are issued on a first come first served basis. The workshops are suitable for children aged 4 and over, however some younger children might need a bit of help – we try to keep things simple. Give us a call if you’re not sure.

Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult.

Textile and Weaving Festival Opens Saturday 16th August
Beautiful contemporary textiles, historic walks, loom demonstrations...

 

The Museum is exhibiting a wonderful selection of contemporary artist's work from Saturday 16th August until Saturday 1st November.

Work by artist Mandy Nash

Dobcross loom demonstrations and the chance to buy a rug produced on this loom on Monday 25th August, Wednesday 27th August, Monday 1st September and Wednesday 3rd September. Times 6-7.30pm.

Weaving Walks with local historian and expert on textile heritage Ken Rogers Saturday 16th August, Thursday 28th August, Saturday 30th August and Thursday 4th September. Times 7-9.00pm.

A lecture on the Somerset and Woollen industry with Ken Rogers at the Arc Theatre on Tuesday 26th August from 7.30-9.00pm.

There will also be textile related childrens activities, exhibitions at John of Gaunt and Pybus Studios and demonstrations by spinners and weavers...

 


Admission to the Museum is free. Normal opening Tue-Fri 10.00-4.00, Sat 10.00-4.30. Disabled Access.
