Title: Paper Textile – transforming paper into yarn
Date: Saturday 14th September
Time: 2-2.45pm
Location: Project Space, Drawing Projects UK, Bridge House, 10 Stallerd Street, BA14 9AE

A life without paper is unimaginable, even in our high technology society. In Japan, using paper to create textiles is an old tradition that is in danger of being lost. However, as a biodegradable material, paper offers today’s society a unique way of creating sustainable textiles.

Join Mayumi Kaneko for this demonstration to learn how Japanese paper is made and how to transform paper into yarn. Drawing on her Japanese heritage, Mayumi uses paper yarn in her woven textiles, creating unique wall-hangings, lamp shades and fashion items. You can see examples of her work in the West of England Festival of Textiles exhibition, taking place at the Drawing Projects UK, 6 – 28 September 2019.

The demonstration is free of charge but booking is essential. To book visit Ticket Source
