West of England Festival of Textiles

Date: 6th – 28th September 2019
Open: Thursdays to Sundays, 10am – 4pm (except Friday 6th when open 5 – 7pm)
Location: Drawing Projects UK, Bridge House, 10 Stallard Street, Trowbridge, BA14 9AE

60’s design icon Mary Quant, Marks & Spencer, Gor-Ray – these were just some of the many discerning clients of the once booming textile industry in Trowbridge.

Join us on a journey as we explore the fascinating story behind the scenes. How were new collections created in a fast-paced factory environment? Who bought the cloth and how was it used? What did it take to become a designer in the British weaving industry?

WEFT will discover these forgotten stories of the people working in Trowbridge mills, creating intricate designs for a global market. The stories will be explored together with cloth examples from our collection.

To celebrate the rich weaving heritage, Trowbridge Museum has invited local weavers to view our collection to inspire new work, reflecting how past designs can influence today. The new work will be on display and for sale.

As Trowbridge Museum is currently closed for refurbishment, the exhibition will take place in the Drawing Projects UK Project Space at Bridge House, 10 Stallard Street, Trowbridge, BA14 9AE – just next to Trowbridge train station: www.drawingprojects.uk
